Preserving Legacy and Preparing for the Future through Youth Entrepreneurship
Commemorating Juneteenth, Youth Entrepreneur Day will support entrepreneurs between the ages of 10–18, through workshops, games, and guest speakers by providing guidance about business ownership, marketing, and financial literacy. Hosted by D.C. based nonprofit, Purpose Is Life, the event offers a platform for young entrepreneurs to showcase their products and services primarily developed while quarantined during the coronavirus pandemic.
Inspired by the resilience, energy, and innovation of these young entrepreneurs, Jamill C. Jones, Founder and CEO of Purpose Is Life, created the event to allow the District of Columbia’s next business leaders an opportunity to learn how to sustain and grow a business in today’s environment. “These young people are tapping into their entrepreneurial spirits to build on the legacies of those who built Black Wall Street in Tulsa and the Black-owned mom and pop shops that kept our communities afloat during segregation,” said Jones. “Creativity and survival are part of our history. It is the resilience of young people, having survived a pandemic and come out on the other side with innovative products and business, that we look to that as we launch the next generation of entrepreneurs.”
Purpose Is Life is pleased to partner with the following cooperating associations to bring this event forward: Canady Foundation for the Arts, D.O.L.L.S & Dreams, and The Stock Market Game by the SIFMA Foundation.
